The Russian Ambassador to Nigeria, Andrey Podyolyshev, refutes claims of a state-backed operation recruiting Nigerians to participate in the Ukraine conflict. Speaking in Abuja, Podyolyshev noted that any recruitment activities, if occurring, are not sanctioned by the Russian government, emphasizing readiness to investigate credible allegations. He criticized Western media reports, such as those from CNN, suggesting these narratives aim to demonize Russia. Noting the presence of Nigerians in conflict zones, he denied any official Russian policy supporting their involvement. Podyolyshev also addressed the longstanding Russia-Nigeria relations, highlighting cooperation in military, education, and energy sectors. He stressed Nigeria's significance in Africa, citing its economic and political influence, and heralded ongoing discussions on enhancing defense and economic ties. An intergovernmental agreement exists for building a Center for Nuclear Science and Technology in Nigeria, reflecting bilateral commitments to energy collaboration. The ambassador emphasized potential developments as part of Russia's goal for a multipolar world order.
