In Khan Yunis, a city in the southern Gaza Strip, young Palestinian girls and women are turning to boxing as a form of psychological relief amidst the turmoil of war. Established by Osama Ayub, whose original boxing club was destroyed in conflict, the training sessions are held in makeshift spaces between shelters for those displaced by the war between Israel and Hamas. Ayub conducts free sessions for about 45 girls, aged 8 to 19, who aim to channel their pain and develop personal strength while dreaming of future championships. Despite harsh conditions and limited resources, such as lack of building materials due to blockades, these sessions provide a valuable outlet. Ayub calls for international support to not only provide equipment but also to allow these young athletes to train abroad. The initiative reflects sports’ power in providing hope and resilience amid adversity.
